After many months of hard work and dedication, our talented team of volunteers has successfully restored our iconic F-86 Sabre. This restoration journey has been both challenging (more than 6,000 volunteer hours have been invested) and incredibly rewarding, and we’re excited to finally share the results with you.
The F-86 Sabre Mk.6 holds a special place in aviation history as the final production version of the Canadair Sabre. Our F-86, serial number #1815, is particularly significant—it is the last Sabre airframe ever produced!
The F-86 Sabre first took flight in 1947, during a time of rapid technological advancement for the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). It was the first fighter aircraft in the RCAF capable of breaking the sound barrier. The Canadair Mk. 6 variant, the model we’ve restored, was the only version of the Sabre manufactured entirely in Canada.
The Sabre is notable not only as the first combat fighter aircraft capable of breaking the sound barrier, but also as the last RCAF aircraft equipped with guns alone, making it one of the final dogfighters of its time.
Come out celebrate with us as our Sabre, #1815, now proudly joins the collection in our Military Skies section.
