This summer, let your imagination take flight! Join us every Tuesday and Friday for hands-on, aviation-inspired pop-up programming—fun and educational activities designed especially for curious young minds. All activities are included with regular museum admission—no extra cost, no registration required!
Perfect for children aged 5–12, these drop-in experiences are a great way to explore STEM-based learning principles, all while spending quality time as a family.
POP-UP PROGRAMMING DAYS:
STRAW AIRPLANES (Jul 1 & 15, Aug 26)
Don’t hold your breath—you’re cleared for takeoff!
Junior engineers will build simple but impressive gliders using only straws, paper, and tape—then test them using the power of their lungs! A fun way to explore how airflow and design affect lift, balance, and flight distance.
PAPER AIRPLANE HOOP CHALLENGE (Jul 4 & 18, Aug 1, 15 & 29)
Turn and burn, fold and fly!
Put your paper-folding skills to the test as you create and fly your own plane through a challenging hoop obstacle course! Adjust your designs to improve control, speed, and agility—just like real aircraft engineers.
HOOP GLIDERS (Jul 8 & 22, Aug 5 & 19)
Ready, set, glide!
Build a hoop glider using loops of paper and a straw, then launch it across the hangar and see how far it will soar! This activity introduces young aviators to the principles of drag, lift, and balance in a way that’s simple and fun.
DIY PARACHUTE TOY (Jul 11 & 25, Aug 8 & 22)
Oh, chute—what goes up must come down!
Build your own mini parachute and test it in free fall with a toy of yours! Kids will explore gravity and air resistance as they design chutes to carry their tiny troopers to safety.
Please bring a small toy (no larger than a LEGO figure) to use in the drop test.
