On August 10, 2024, we celebrated the grand opening of our newly renamed Dr. D.S. Reimer Aviation Plaza in honour of one of our longstanding donors.

Dr. Donald Reimer exemplified a life of excellence in business and philanthropy. At age 19, he founded Reimer Express Lines, and led the company for over 40 years. He was executive chairman and chief executive officer of Reimer World Corp., the parent company that included Reimer Express Lines. In 1988, Dr. Reimer received an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree from Trinity Western University.

In 1989, Reimer Express Lines received a Canada Award for Business Excellence in Quality. Dr. Reimer received the Manitoba Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Business Achievement Award in 1987 and the National Transportation Person-of-the-Year Award in 1994.  He established the Reimer Express Foundation in 1985 to support charitable giving.

Our plaza is integral to the Royal Aviation Museum’s to educate, inspire, and entertain. It allows us to host visiting aircraft, is home to the Carolyn Sifton Foundation Pedal Plane Zone, and provides space for large-scale events, like our annual Father’s Day Wings & Wheels event.

An avid pilot and generous supporter of the museum, Dr. D. S. Reimer has supported the museum for decades. Though he passed away in November of 2023, we will never forget his contributions to the museum.
