RAMWC celebrates one year in new building

(WINNIPEG, MB – May 18, 2023) –After an exciting and record-breaking year at its new home on the campus of the Winnipeg Richardson International Airport, the RAMWC is set to throw an anniversary celebration on May 20, 2023.

More than 100,000 visitors have experienced the Royal Aviation Museum since it opened to the public at 2088 Wellington Avenue on May 21, 2022.

In the past year, the museum has added three new aircraft to its on-site collection, welcomed thousands of students, and become one of Winnipeg’s must-see attractions. And it’s not just the public taking note.

On May 18, 2023, the Assiniboia Chamber of Commerce presented the RAMWC with an award for Business of the Year in recognition of its commitment to excellence and contributions to West Winnipeg’s economic growth.

CEO Terry Slobodian says, “We’re so thankful to all the visitors and partners who have made time to check out our new facility. The community support we’ve experienced has been overwhelmingly positive and has made the past year exciting and extremely rewarding for all of us.”

To celebrate a banner year, the public is invited to the museum on May 20, 2023, for a fun-filled day including discounted admission, free parking, a tour of the de Havilland Canada Buffalo aircraft, food trucks, and a few surprises.

The museum will be open from 10 am to 5 pm.

About the RAMWC

The Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada was established in 1974 by a small group of visionaries committed to preserving Canada’s distinct aviation heritage. Today, with nearly 100 historic aircraft and more than 70,000 artefacts and archival records (including photographs), the museum remains one of Canada’s largest and most complete aviation heritage collections. Through remarkable storytelling and engaging exhibits that enable visitors and students to discover the science behind flight, this collection is sure to inspire future generations of aviators and inventors. RAMWC is located on the campus of the Winnipeg Richardson International Airport and will be a premier attraction for the city of Winnipeg. Located on Treaty No. 1 Territory, the traditional lands of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, Lakota, and Dene Peoples, and the homeland of the Métis Nation, RAMWC is committed to Truth and Reconciliation, and to creating a safe space for this to occur.
